Private Wilderness Experiences

Discovering real wilderness: With our Natucate group trips

Looking for a conscious wilderness adventure? Our Private Wilderness Experiences embrace slow travel in extraordinary and remote natural places.

The Private Wilderness Experience (PWE) is a journey designed for those who seek a more mindful way to explore wild places in a group setting!

Born out of the desire for more conscious, slow-paced travel, PWE offers a unique opportunity to disconnect from the digital world, immerse yourself in the rhythms of the wilderness, and reconnect with nature and yourself.

It’s more than a trip: it’s a transformative wilderness experience where you truly feel the land, wildlife, and ecosystems — not just visit them. This is the essence of slow travel, mindful safaris, and nature-focused group travel.

Join us on our adventures and experience the magic together on our wilderness group trips!

The beginning of our PWE journey

Over a decade ago, we organised our first Private Wilderness Experience in the untouched landscapes of Botswana and South Africa. Initiated by our founder Daniel and shaped together with inspiring guides, those first journeys marked an important step toward redefining what a safari could be – more mindful, more immersive, and more connected.

Today, our PWEs are not just about adventure. They’re about reconnection – with nature, with wild places, and with ourselves. It's slow travel at its most authentic, where each moment in the wilderness is intentional and deeply felt.

Together with conservationists, conscious travellers, and nature lovers, we aim to create experiences that matter. Meaningful, conscious, and transformative.

What makes a Private Wilderness Experience special?

At the heart of PWE is the idea of personal immersion in the wilderness. We don’t just take you to a place— you will understand and feel it. To summarise it, a Private Wilderness Experience offers a range of benefits that make it stand out:

  1. Intimate, personalised journeys:
Unlike large group tours, PWE focuses on smaller groups, allowing for more meaningful connections and a more personalised experience.

  2. Exceptional guides:
Be led by experienced wilderness guides who will open up their world to you. Gain knowledge, try to understand the local ecosystem and be inspired.

  3. Slow Safari:
During our PWEs, you'll spend your time based at main camps, exploring and engaging in activities from there. This slow travel approach gives you the chance to truly connect with your surroundings and gain a deeper understanding of the environment.

  4. Group travel: Enjoy the company of like-minded travellers who share the love for nature, wilderness and mindful experiences and seek genuine connections.

  5. Authentic experience:
Forget the crowds and commercialism of mass tourism—this is about real, raw nature, free from distractions.

  6. Mindfulness and well-being:
A slower pace of travel offers space for personal reflection, mindfulness, and deep relaxation while also allowing you to get to know and understand the land and wildlife you are exploring.

  7. Special events:
For example, dinner in the bush, sleeping under the stars, interest-led workshops, etc.

  8. Support for conservation:
Every PWE journey contributes to efforts aimed at protecting the environment and empowering local communities, ensuring that your travel leaves a positive impact.

  9. Deep connection with nature:
The emphasis on slow travel means you can fully immerse yourself in the beauty and serenity of the wilderness.

Expanding our horizons: All our PWEs

Based on our enriching experience in Botswana (PWE Wild Kwapa), we now offer more Private Wilderness Experiences:

South Africa: The PWE Wild Coast in South Africa takes you to a unique, species-rich region on the coast – with the same focus on mindfulness, depth and connection to nature.

Zimbabwe: On our PWE Wild Hwange in Zimbabwe, you can explore the untouched nature of Hwange National Park.

Botswana: Alternatively to PWE Kwapa, you can get to know the Khwai Private Reserve and observe wildlife from Little Sable on our PWE Wild Khwai retreat.

Madagascar: To experience a more tropical PWE in the rainforest, we offer you our PWE Wild Masoala in Madagascar. Engage all your senses and explore the primary forest as well as the marine life while staying at the beautiful Masoala Forest Lodge.

Tanzania: Experience the diversity of Tanzania on our wilderness journeys. Remote camps, small groups, few other visitors. Plenty of time to learn and experience in a group of nature lovers. Discover the Serengeti and the magical Rubondo Island Camp on our PWE Wild Rubondo & Serengeti.

The slow safari approach

A key element of the Private Wilderness Experience is the concept of ”Slow Safari”, a mindful approach that allows you to immerse yourself fully in the landscape and wildlife around you. In today’s fast-paced world, where many safaris rush through destinations to tick off a list of sights, the Slow Safari invites you to take a step back and experience nature at a more deliberate, thoughtful pace. This journey is about observing the smallest details, savouring each moment, allowing nature to unfold at its own rhythm and being a silent witness.

The beauty of a slow travel experience lies in the time it gives you to truly connect with the wildlife you encounter. It’s not about hurriedly capturing the next sighting with your camera, but about allowing the animals to reveal their behaviours and interactions in a way that deepens your understanding. Whether it’s the gentle movements of a leopard in the tall grass, the quiet communication between elephants, or the subtle changes in the sounds of the bush, each moment is an opportunity for connection and reflection.

This approach allows you to tune into the environment itself — the flow of the land, the seasonal patterns, and the intricate ecosystems that sustain life in the wilderness. It’s about experiencing the wild on its own terms, without the distraction of rushing or the pressure of ticking off a list. At PWE, the focus shifts from speed to depth, from capturing an image to capturing the essence of the experience.

Through this mindful approach, guests are encouraged to embrace the pace of nature, which is always slow, rhythmic, and patient. Whether it’s watching the sunrise over the Delta or taking a moment of quiet to listen to the calls of birds at dusk, a PWE is about being present, truly experiencing nature, and returning home with a deeper sense of appreciation and connection.

Private Wilderness Experience: A journey of reconnection

The Private Wilderness Experience isn’t just a trip—it’s a journey that offers the rare chance to disconnect, slow down, and truly reconnect with nature and yourself. Whether you're exploring the wild landscapes of Botswana, or experiencing slow travel at South Africa's Wild Coast, each journey is a unique opportunity to slow down and embrace the wilderness in its purest form.

Are you ready to slow down and reconnect with the wild? Join us on a Private Wilderness Experience and rediscover the world through the lens of mindful travel!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Private Wilderness Experience

1. What is a Private Wilderness Experience (PWE)?

A PWE is an exclusive, carefully designed group journey into pristine natural areas. It combines slow, mindful travel with authentic nature experiences, expert guidance from experienced guides, and a focus on connecting with nature and yourself.

2. Who can join a PWE?

Our PWEs are open to anyone who wishes to travel consciously, regardless of prior experience. Each trip is designed to allow space for individual interests. You can look forward to exchanging ideas and sharing wild moments with fellow nature enthusiasts and travel lovers.

3. What does “Slow Safari” mean?

Slow Safari is our approach to experiencing nature at your own pace. Rather than rushing from one highlight to the next, we take the time to observe and understand animals, landscapes, and ecosystems in a mindful, deliberate way.

4. Which regions can I explore with a PWE?

Currently, we offer PWEs in the following regions:

  • Botswana – Wild Kwapa & Wild Khwai
  • South Africa – Wild Coast
  • Zimbabwe – Wild Hwange
  • Madagascar - Wild Masoala
  • Tanzania - Wild Rubondo & Serengeti

Each destination has been carefully selected to offer rich biodiversity and exceptional wildlife encounters.

5. How large are the groups?

Group sizes are deliberately kept small to ensure intimate experiences and personalised attention. This creates space for genuine connections – with guides, fellow participants, and the natural environment.

6. What activities are included in a PWE?

For example:

  • Guided wildlife observations, walks, and game drives
  • Mindful nature experiences depending on the destination (forest bathing, snorkelling, birdwatching, etc.)
  • Workshops and themed evenings focusing on nature, culture, and conservation
  • Special highlights: sleeping under the stars, mokoro excursions, and more (if possible)

7. What makes a Private Wilderness Experience (PWE) special?

A PWE gives you the chance to join a group of nature enthusiasts taking things slowly. You learn to notice the details and discover the different layers of a place:

  • At first, you notice the landscape and larger mammals.
  • Later, you start listening to the sounds of nature, identifying birds, exploring the ground for tracks, and observing smaller insects and other elements of the ecosystem.
  • You might even recognise the same lion pair you saw a few days ago, identify the wild dogs you watched during the last sundowner or slowly see the landscape change.

In this way, you truly get to know a place – its inhabitants, its history, and conservation efforts – and immerse yourself deeply in nature.

8. How is my safety and the wildlife’s safety ensured?

Safety is our top priority. Our experienced guides ensure the correct distances, behaviours, and protective measures so you can experience nature authentically and safely, without disturbing wildlife in their natural habitat.

9. How do I book a PWE?

You can book directly through our website by selecting your preferred destination, duration, and dates. If you have any questions, our team is ready to help plan the perfect trip for you. Please contact us via email.
