Your Mack Air flight brings you to Libuti Airstrip – remote and set in the heart of the savannah. From there, you’ll travel by 4x4 through southern Hwange. This first overland transfer gives you a stunning initial glimpse of Hwange’s landscapes and its flora and fauna.

Covering over 14,600 km², Hwange is nearly the size of the Serengeti – yet far less visited. This makes every safari feel exclusive. In the dry season, hundreds of elephants gather at the waterholes, and with a bit of luck, you may witness these peaceful scenes all alone – except for your guide and the wildlife.

Hwange is renowned for its exceptionally qualified guides, who will introduce you to the intricate ecosystem on foot and by vehicle – from animal behaviour to tracking skills.

Jozibanini Camp is nestled in a remote corner of Hwange National Park – a place where wilderness is largely left to itself and vehicles rarely disturb the silence. This extraordinary camp is purposefully located far from traditional safari routes – a haven for those seeking tranquillity, connection with nature, and true wilderness.

The accommodation consists of just eight tents, including five elevated on wooden platforms with expansive views over the bush, and one ground-level tent. All tents are intentionally simple, yet comfortably appointed with open en-suite bathrooms, bucket showers, mosquito nets, solar lighting, and mobile LED lamps. Instead of air-conditioning, you’ll hear the whisper of the wind – and the roar of lions in the distance at night.

A special highlight is the so-called "star bed ’: Each bed is on wheels and can be pushed onto the tent deck. If the weather and wildlife conditions allow, you can sleep here under millions of stars - open, free and very close to nature.

The camp runs entirely on solar power and blends sensitively into its surroundings. Instead of mass tourism, you’ll enjoy intimate exclusivity, up-close wildlife encounters, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re part of the landscape, not just a visitor.

This is how a day during your PWE Wild Hwange could look like:

Your day begins with an early wake-up call, followed by freshly brewed coffee and a light bite around the fire. As the sun rises, you’ll head out on a guided game walk or game drive to explore what happened in the bush during the night – often the most active time for predators like lions and wild dogs. Accompanied by a professional guide, you’ll track wildlife on foot, interpret fresh spoor, and possibly encounter elephants, buffalo, kudu, or even the elusive roan antelope – all in the golden morning light.

After returning to camp, take time to refresh before heading out to the beautiful, remote Jozi Pan for a long, leisurely brunch in the open. There’s something magical about dining in complete solitude, surrounded by untouched wilderness.

The pace in the early afternoon is yours to choose: perhaps a mountain bike ride, another walk, or an open vehicle safari to discover more of this remote and pristine part of the park. You may also have the chance to visit the nearby Makona park ranger station, where you can meet the dedicated rangers who help protect Hwange’s deep south.

For a change of perspective, spend a few hours in the remarkable Look-Up Hide. From the cool comfort of this sunken container – complete with bench seating and a discreet ensuite – you’ll be within metres of elephants as they drink and bathe. It’s a photographer’s dream: a ground-level view of wise elephant eyes, worn toenails, and sometimes even curious lions coming in for a closer sniff.

As the sun dips, you’ll enjoy one of the real highlights: a bush sundowner in a spectacular setting, followed by a delicious open-air dinner under the stars and a fireside chat to end the day.

And when it’s time to sleep, you can – if you wish – roll your bed out onto the deck and drift off under the vast African sky, serenaded by the sounds of the wild.

On your final morning, bid farewell to Jozibanini with a last breakfast overlooking the wilderness. Then return to Libuti Airstrip, where your Mack Air flight will take you back to Victoria Falls – your heart full of memories, and perhaps still carrying a little dust from the savannah.
