The Camp

Guest accommodation

Xakanaxa Camp accommodates its guests in twelve comfortable safari tents raised on wooden platforms along the banks of the Khwai River. All tents are equipped with double beds and have access to a private bathroom. From the private small veranda you have a unique view over the grass and river landscape of the Khwai River. The tents also have sockets for charging small electrical appliances, a hairdryer, fan, desk plus chair, safe and plenty of storage space. Children 5 years and older are welcome in Xakanaxa on request. One extra bed can be added per safari tent.

Central facilities

The elegant, open main area of the camp stretches up to the Khwai River and lies on elevated platforms. From here you have an excellent view over the Xakanaxa lagoon, the river and the small islands. In this central area you will find a lounge with seating, a dining area to share daily meals, a bar, a small souvenir shop and a swimming pool. From the main deck, a footbridge leads to the camp fireplace, which is located on a circular platform above the water.

To explore the diverse nature and fascinating wildlife of the Moremi Game Reserve, morning and afternoon game drives are available, as well as motorboat and mokoro trips, a traditional dugout canoe. An experienced guide is always at the guests' side to show them the most beautiful places of the surrounding Delta region and to impart interesting natural knowledge.

Xakanaxa Camp is a traditional safari camp that offers wonderful comfort and service. It lies in a picturesque location directly on the Khwai River in the middle of the Moremi Game Reserve. This area is known for its animal density and is considered one of the most beautiful protected areas in southern Africa. Exciting wildlife excursions – exclusively by game drive or in a boat/mokoro – can be made from the camp. The special feature: water-based activities can be carried out here all year round. Occasionally the wildlife even shows itself directly in front of the front door. Each tent offers a unique view of the open grass and river landscape of the Khwai River, where hippos and other wild animals of the region can be seen regularly.

The Moremi Game Reserve is famous for its magnificent animal wealth. On the daily game drives and boat or mokoro trips you can observe an abundance of wild animals. Elephants, lions, buffalos, hyenas, hippopotamuses, giraffes, zebras, kudus, moorland antelopes and horse antelopes are frequently seen. In particular, water-based activities can be used to discover the numerous bird species of the region - various storks, cranes and white-tailed eagles - as well as hippos, crocodiles and other representatives of African wildlife. Who has special luck, perhaps even spies one of the rare African wild dogs. And even from your own tent veranda you can make unique sightings of hippos, elephants, crocodiles or other animals that visit the water of the Khwai River.
