Ideas for your Sabbatical –
The Sunshine Route

This route will lead you around the American continent. You will become active in different animal protection projects in Peru, Costa Rica and Florida/USA where you are going to experience lots of fascinating landscapes and gain much positive energy.

The first place on your travel will be in the midst of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest: You will be accommodated in a research station deep in the jungle, in the so-called Madre-de-Dios-region, where you are going to investigate the exotic flora and fauna together with experienced scientists. In different lectures you will be introduced to the principles of species protection and tropical biology and learn practical skills that can be applied in the field research. During the course you will have the chance to focus on one of the following topics: primatology, ornithology, entomology and herpetology. Depending on your personal focus you will travel to Costa Rica 2 to 3 weeks later. Here you will commit yourself in a voluntary project to the protection of wild sea turtles. You will take care of the turtle nests on the beach and detect their breeding and movement patterns. Get to know the exotic paradise of one of Central America’s most beautiful countries. The last part of you travel will take place in Florida. The “Sunshine State” in the Southeast of the USA is characterized by beautiful coastlines, endless white beaches and the world-famous Everglades National Park. You will stay here for 8 weeks and work in the field of animal protection. It is up to you whether you want to work on a horse ranch in Orlando, where you will protect and rehabilitate maltreated mustangs or if you want to stay in Ocala National Forest, a place where you can become active in the cure of suffering wild animals.

On the „Sunshine Route“ you will not only get to know America’s different cultures and make lots of important experiences abroad, moreover you will contribute to meaningful projects in the field of animal and species protection.
